Today was the first ever Disability Pride in Norwich, organised by Ann Young and her team from the Norfolk Coalition of Disabled People - NCODP. I was at the Forum bright and early to see Andrew and all my friends in D4Dance on Millennium Plain. They were delightful! very entertaining. I loved the film the Youth Forum made for FUSION and Johny Crescendo's songs were very rousing. He had a great song about Pride with a chorus "strong, angry and proud!" that everyone sang along to. Vince performed his poetry and was fantastic as ever and he and Ole had some artwork in the exhibition. It was a great day.

Action Crew member Carol Barber celebrated her 60th birthday today with a Tea Party at the Tea Lounge. She told me I was in charge of music! I booked Eileen Mascoll from Great Yarmouth to do a set. Eileen was brilliant! She is originally from Jamaica and once sang with Bob Marley. She was absolutely lovely with Carol and her friends and did a great job entertaining everyone. We all sang along and Christine, Carol's carer, was even up dancing. There's never been a Tea Party like it!Thursday, May 27

Have been doing some more work on the Prison Visitors Centre DVD. There's been some slight changes in the system for booking visits etc. Was nice to catch up with Chris again to rerecord bits of his voiceover. The French version wasn't quite complete so this was a great opportunity to make sure it was up-to-date and a friend of Carmen's called Judith came in to adjust Gervais's translation and rerecord the voiceover. Gervais is from the Congo so it was fascinating working with Judith and hearing about the differences between Congolese-French and French-French. This whole process of translating the DVD into a variety of languages has been amazing. It's interesting seeing which translations can fit the timing of the original film with ease - the Russian and the French have been the biggest challenge so far and I've had to include stills to ensure the words fit the images. Judith thinks she might be able to find us some Lithuanian students next...

We had the last ever Shelly Telly Table Tennis Club Night at the Miller Hall at the Norman Centre tonight and it was a good one. Lots of new people turned up and it was loads of fun. It was slightly more sedate than usual because we combined it with a Knit-In for helenofnorwich's giant scarf - sometimes the temptation to sit and knit rather than do some sport was too much for people! The Norwich and District Table Tennis League are now passing ownership of the Miller Hall over to the City Council and the room will be used for lots of different things. We will miss it - we've had some fabulous eveings there over the last couple of years.Thursday, May 13

Had a cuppa with a lovely woman called Pat Howe today. Pat runs a voluntary group called Spirit of Carnival and they are organising a Community Parade called Fridi Gras in Norwich on Friday 9th July. I met Pat at a meeting about Norwich's bid to become a city of culture. Pat is keen for Norwich Pride to be involved in Fridi Gras and can offer us workshops and materials to create costumes. Sounds fab - will be wonderful to be embedded in a mainstream cultural event and dance alongside schools and charities and community groups. And it's a great opportunity for me to learn some costume-making skills for Shelly Telly.

Had some tea and cake with Nicola from Supporting People this morning. She's organising a "Let's Get Involved" Conference on 29th June and wants me to run a couple of workshops on "Creative Involvement" using my flip camcorders. Connie from Dereham is going to assist me which will be brilliant. We brainstormed ways of ending the conference in a creative, interactive way and came up with the "Evaluation Raffle." People would be given slips of paper to write their favourite thing about the conference. These would be put in a hat and a selection pulled out at random and read aloud. The people who wrote them will get prizes. In this way there will be the excitement of a raffle (I love a good raffle!) and we'll get to reflect on the day in a positive way. Nicola also agreed for me to organise a Knit-In for the giant Pride Rainbow scarf at lunchtime whilst the "Involvement Cinema" featuring the Supporting People DVD and other films are screened.

The Tea Lounge have joined the campaign to "Knit with Pride" and create a giant rainbow scarf for Norwich Pride. Artist helenofnorwich is audaciously attempting to break the world record for continuous knitting and cover the balcony of City Hall with the scarf. Norwich City Hall has the longest balcony in the country - it's 365ft - so she needs a lot of help. Helen is organising "Knit-Ins" across the city and wants to link with local churches. The Tea Lounge have become an official Knit-Stop where you can drop off squares, pick up wool and even knit a few rows whilst having a cuppa. I find myself knitting through all my meetings now! For more information about "knit with Pride" go to the Norwich Pride website.Thursday, April 29

Saw an amazing play at the Playhouse tonight. It was called "Hearing Voices" and was by Clare Summerskill. It was the story of her time on a mental health ward. There was some amazing acting from the company who all played lots of very different roles. I've done several different filmmaking projects with people with mental health issues so the play felt especially poignant. Our films often capture people's memories so i felt quite emotional seeing similiar stories brought alive on stage. For more details of Clare's work check out www.claresummerskill.co.uk

Was in Aylsham today filming Jeannette at the Get Involved Group for the Partnership Board DVD. My old pal Maggie was there on one of her last days at work as the Involvement and Empowerment Team Manager at Norfolk Learning Difficulties Service. Maggie has got a new job at a regional level. It's going to be interesting to see how the Partnership Boards work across the region and whether others create DVD reports too. I'm keen to hear if there's other Shelly Tellies in neighbouring counties and what kind of community filmmaking is happening elsewhere. Maggie has done fantastic work here in Norfolk and will be much-missed. As you can can, the group today gave her a lovely bunch of flowers to wish her luck. Wednesday, April 7

The Superfoods Team were back in town today to finish off the project by packing the DVDs. We grabbed the lovely long table at the Tea Lounge and broke the job down into different stages. Cathy put the cover in; June put the leaflet in and Sheila put the DVD in - it was poetry in motion! The DVDs looked great - big thanks to Tom Bullard for his fab design work on the packaging. Sheila sent some lovely feedback later: "Thanks for everything. You added so many good things to the project and I have really enjoyed working with you. I have just watched the film again and it is so good"Tuesday, March 30

Tonight I beat Ruth Bullard in our Table Tennis match against Newton Flotman B. It was a momentous occasion. We've been in the league for four seasons now and rarely get many points. But we have maintained our good humour and invested in our coaching with the talented twins Martyn and Richard Stevenson. Ruth has beaten me regularly and ruthlessly so it was fab to win at last in an exciting 5-setter. She took her defeat with good grace and still booked me for some filmmaking at Flegg. What a professional!

My old mate Stella asked me to film the Attleborough Gateway Party tonight at the Town Hall. I've known Stella for 16 years - since I came to Norfolk to be the Mencap District Officer. It was a great evening: people had so much fun and the entertainer got everyone singing and dancing. I got a couple of the youngest party-goers to help me with the filming - they loved the Flip camcorders.

Jo and I set off to Aylsham today to do some filming at Wendy's Housing Conference. She wants to do a Video Report for the Housing Group so we'll include footage from today with some people's stories. Wendy is great at taking loads of photos and produces a colourful, accessible newsletter so we'll have no problems combining it all to make a really good DVD.

We had an amazing day today launching Football v Homophobia, an international event spearheaded by the Brighton-based Justin Campaign. Justin Fashanu, who grew up in Norfolk and played for Norwich City, is still the only professional footballer ever to come out. 30 years ago this month he scored the Goal of the Season against Liverpool. Today would have been his birthday. His niece Amal Fashanu came to Norwich to launch the Campaign and we had a huge amount of media interest. We had live reports from Anglia and the BBC at the Millennium Library which hosted Alan Quick's Justin exhibition. In the evening the regional Football programme "Late Kickoff" came to film our football match at Carrow Park. They did a 15 minute article on Homophobia in Football which was fantastic. I loved all the archive footage of Justin and John growing up in Wymondham. Both MPs came to our match as did David McNally, Chief Exec of Norwich City FC. They all wore pink and black scarves that we'd been knitting all week in our local "Let's Knit Homophobia Out of Football" campaign. My favourite thing of all though was the Town Crier - he was a star! Justin - you were a brilliant footballer and human being, we're so proud of you. Check out the EDP article and Anglia News item.

Had a WONDERFUL day today at the Superfoods Launch. The film went down really well and Ian Gibson was a fantastic speaker. He chaired a debate about Superfoods and his words and tone were perfect. Our scientists Paul and Dave were on the panel and they were great - they spoke about food science in a very accessible way. They loved the DVD. I commissioned Maddi Cassell to write some music for the film and she performed it live today. She went through the words with people and we had a fab singalong. I'm going to produce a karaoke version for the DVD!Tuesday, February 2

Richard Blake came up from Bishops Stortford today to take part in the LGBT History Month celebrations. He did a very poignant talk about being "Gay and Disabled." There was a guy in a wheelchair who said Norwich Pride was the best day of his life which I felt very moved by. Richard showed a short film about himself that included some footage (filmed by Stevie) of him on the Norwich Pride Parade. Richard and I are still keen to make a film together about people with learning difficulties who are LGBT but ours would be made by the people themselves. The people at today's workshop are want to meet again which is brilliant.

Today was the start of LGBT History Month and here in Norfolk the Steering Group managed to coordinate a calendar with at least one event everyday. It began with the raising of the rainbow flag at Civic buildings across Norfolk, starting with County Hall where they arranged a reception for us. I did a speech! and talked about arriving in Norfolk 15 years ago and being told "if you want to change the world, don't come to Norfolk!" Later on we were at City Hall for the Launch Party which over 100 people attended. You can find out more about LGBT History Month at www.lgbthistorymonth.org.ukWednesday, January 27

I've spent the last two weeks at FUSION from 10-2pm, helping people to engage with 140 CHARACTERS and think about things they might like to do as a result of the show - writing, filmmaking etc. It's part of a project called "WHAT NEXT?" sponsored by the Transformation Fund. I've employed young Michael from the Pride Collective to be my assistant and he's been great. I showed Michael how to use a Flip camcorder and edit via iMovie on the first morning - he made his first movie within an hour. Since then he's supported several librarians to produce some mini-epics. Today we had Shelly Telly Day at FUSION and I invited some more of the Action Crew - Lisa, Lauren, Jo D and little Jamie - to come along and do some mass movie-making. It was a very busy day with lots of home-educated kids and adults with learning difficulties coming down. In the middle of it, Vince and I went upstairs for an interview on Radio Norfolk. It's been a really busy week getting everything ready for 140 CHARACTERS. My partner Di has produced some amazing 12 SECONDS movies and my eyes have gone square producing an enormous photo collage to fill the 60ft curved screen with every picture different. I was due to give a talk to City College students this morning but had to put them off - invited them to come down to the show next week instead.

Did a fab course at Broadland Council today with Maria from Media Pro Training and learnt all about how to write an effective Press Release. I met some really nice people from UEA and Yarmouth Borough Council and loved it when Maria worked on a press release for 140 CHARACTERS with me. I love working with other professionals who excel at their jobs. I really enjoyed all Maria's anecdotes and learnt a lot about what it's like to be a reporter and what makes a great news story.
