Have had a lovely few days filming people for Wendy's Housing Report DVD. Wendy has been an excellent client: she's been recording her own footage on her Flip - and hasn't overfilmed so it's been easy to pick the best shots. She also write an excellent voiceover script and chose a great person to read it out - Carol, you were a joy, thanks. She chose great people for me to film - was fab to see my old friends Chris and Simon, and Ann and Paul, and sweet to meet Maurice and Ernie. She wrote a very effective edit script and knew exactly what shots she wanted where. And best of all she didn't panic when I was so tired from Pride, I was delayed getting started. The finished film was delivered on time and went down really well and she'd ordered 100 copies. When I have my Shelly Telly 10th birthday party later this year, I predict Wendy will be in the short-list for Best Client award!!

Had our traditional post-Pride Stewards Party to say thanks to all our volunteers. Had loads of lovely speeches from the Collective and then Med Student Liz shouted "big thanks to shell" and people cheered and cheered and cheered. Was very moved. I feel I've used every ounce of my energy, skills and experience to chair Norwich Pride this year and it was worth it. Our young Treasurer Kim said "it makes you believe you can change the world" and it does. And what's it got to do with being a community filmmaker? It makes me humble. It makes me vulnerable. And I've no doubt I'll make - and help people to make - better films because of it.

Well the big day arrived - that day that had been distracting me from my loyal clients for months! It was 31st July at last and it rained!!! But not to worry, it was a truly fantastic day. I was astonished by how brilliant it was. The Pink Punters Rainbow Bus looked amazing on Millennium Plain; thousands joined the parade and the rain magically stopped just as we set off; the choir was awesome; the speeches were inspiring; the entertainment was genuinely entertaining; and the costumes and facepaininting and smiles on people's faces were enchanting. And I'm so proud of all my friends and clients and colleagues who came along to steward and support. Wow! xxx

I gave a little introduction to Vince's Spoken Word event tonight at St Gregory's. The event brought together new writers from the NOW - Norwich Out Write - groups as well as more established performers. I meant to get more involved in NOW but have been too busy organising things to be able to express myself creatively. I decided I would do a poem tonight though and went up in the loft to find some of my old notebooks. Read a poem i wrote 21 years ago - it went down well. I need to make more time to be creative.

Had a really nice meeting with Erica Watson last week who used to run WEETU when I did my business skills training and set up Shelly Telly 10 years ago. Erica is now freelance too and we're going to start meeting regularly to co-mentor one another. This first session was dominated by all my ideas/issues/excitement about Norwich Pride but I promise to be a better listener in future. We both agreed that whilst Norwich Pride has taken a lot of my time, it's been good for business-development and for raising my profile. I think my clients and crew will really start to feel the benefits over the next year or so when I use more and more of the talents of these amazing artists, musicians and performers I've been working with.

Spent the morning following the Pride Peacock on the Norwich Pride Arts Trail across the city centre. The Arts Trail was put together by yet another amazing artist Dugald Ferguson who managed to get the Theatre Royal to join in too with an exhibition about Matthew Bourne's Swan Lake. We had huge bunches of brightly-coloured balloons and gave these out with Norwich Pride leaflets as we made our way across the city. We had a nice break at OUT140 at the Arts Centre before charging over to the Haymarket for the Campaign Team's Kiss-in and then stumbling up Ber St to Eloise O'Hare's Super Solo Show at the Tea Lounge. Our feet were soooo tired but it was a great morning - had loads of lovely feedback from people.

Well tonight I started a new career as a photojournalist taking pics for OUTLINE magazine at the fabulous night of GAIETY at St Gregory's Centre for the Arts. GAIETY was a Crude Apache production for Norwich Pride and included two plays - The Gay Play written by Chantal Schaul and Crude Apache's "For Adult's Only: the Weimer Years." The church looked fantastic and was packed full of people. It was a fab evening. Unfortuntaly I didn't get too much time to enjoy the shows - when I wasn't taking photos, I was helping to fold 3,000 Norwich Pride leaflets designed by the super-talented Sammy Bettis. It was lovely to see people reading the leaflets at half-time and choosing the things they'll do to celebrate Norwich Pride.

Today was the launch of OUT140 at the Norwich Arts Centre - I'm so proud! This time the exhibition takes the form of huge printed text around the building as well as an art installation by Vince Laws in the bar. Thanks to Stuart and Holly at the Arts Centre for all their great work imagining and bringing OUT140 to life in such a different setting. It was so brilliant having the huge FUSION screen in the Forum in January, I couldn't quite imagine how it would work without it. But I'm really pleased with how powerful OUT140 is at the Arts Centre and Stuart says they are getting lots of positive feedback. I'm also picking up lots of fab new stories e.g. "Tom came out on his birthday. He said he didn't want a present, just wanted to be accepted." Thanks to Councillor Jeremy Hooke for his lovely intro tonight and the Killer Queens for their emotional speeches and fantastic performance of "FREE." Thanks also to Jo and Vicki from STEW Gallery for their wonderful work screen-printing of OUT140 tshirts while-u-wait: another pair of talented artists I'll definitely work with again.Friday, July 16

Talking about fabulous, talented people, we've now got a Pride Choir, led by Stephanie Anderson. Stephanie has got terrific energy, enthusiasm and skills and it's quite magical the sounds she is creating with us. People choose which part they'd like to sing in each song - bass, tenor, alto, soprano - and she teaches us these parts, all by ear. The moment when we all sing in close harmony together is thrilling - so inspiring. Am looking forward to the day the choir create a soundtrack for a Shelly Telly film.....

One of the things I love most about being involved in Norwich Pride is meeting so many talented people and it's wonderful to be able to use their skills at Shelly Telly. It's been lovely to get to know Eloise O'Hare this year - she's got a Super Solo Show at the Tea Lounge for the whole of July. I've been struggling with how to make the Partnership Board's statistics look good in their DVD - a lot of people with learning difficulties have very basic maths so I wanted t make sure the figures were as accessible and visual as possible. Eloise has come to my rescue and we spent the afternoon sketching out ideas. With the housing, for example, we're going to have different size houses representing the ways in which the money is spent - so the house showing the money spent on Residential Care is bigger than the one for Supported Living. Eloise also kindly agreed to create a hand-painted poster for the Pride Tea Party on 30th July including a fab portrait of Rod the Harpist. Wednesday, July 14

I said she could work with me for a day and she did a huge range of activities including.....attending a meeting about Tackling Homophobia in Schools (and being "the voice of the youth" whenever we wanted to check anything out) helping me get my new mobile phone fixed, getting me cups of tea, creating charts for the Partnership Board DVD, learning how to knit squares for the giant Norwich Pride scarf. Had a wonderful evening with the Spirit of Carnival team at Fridi Gras, the community carnival parade. Pat and Linda have been running costume-making workshops for Norwich Pride over the last couple of months and the results were stunning. Our theme was "Welcome to Pride Island - a colourful island somewhere over the rainbow where everyone can be themselves." Travis's Peacock was of course amazing; Kieran looked very handsome as the captain of the Cruise Ship; Andrew and Linda were lovely as a butterfly and Carmen Miranda; Pat's seahorse was beautiful; Huw's Mother Nature was cute; Wayne's island was fab; everyone was impressed by my rainbow wings/petals; and the huge rainbow flag that my pal Eve Pandolfi sewed for us was just brilliant. The Killer Queens were fantastic on Millennium Plain getting everyone screaming and clapping along to the official Norwich Pride single 2010 "FREE" It was a really happy evening. Well done Pat and Linda!

My travels round the county filming the Partnership Board DVD continued this week - recorded the voiceover with Tracey in South Norfolk; a very talented artist called Gary in Kings Lynn and my old friends Pauline and Natalie just outside Dereham. It was great to film Natalie swimming with her carers - having direct payments has really opened up her life.

Fab day today at the Supporting People "Let's Get Involved" conference. Jo D and I led a workshop called "Creative Involvement." I showed the DVD Jo and Lisa made for me about Shelly Telly and once again marvelled at how effective a short film can be for getting across loads of information really quickly. We had lots of fun with the Flips and I got each of the two groups to film 5 tops tips for creative involvement. I then edited these together in the break and we showed the 10 Top Tips at the end of the conference. Unfortunately we couldn't get the sound to work so I turned it into a game and asked people to guess what the tips were which led to some hilarious suggestions. Nick and Oz were there from the Human Library running a workshop - they're interested in us making a film together and were impressed by what we achieved in such a short amount of time. I can't wait to make a film about the Human Library - I LOVE the concept of people learning about diversity by chatting to Human Books and I know there's some fantastic stories to be captured.Thursday, June 24

Have had a fun few days chasing round the county filming people for the Partnership Board DVD Report. It was lovely to meet David again who worked with me on the "Top 10 Tips for Going into Hospital DVD" he talked about what it was like when his son went into hospital and the help given to them by Tristan, the Liaison Nurse for people with learning difficulties. I filmed Tristan herself on Thursday and was really pleased she managed to persuade one of her nursing colleagues to do a bit of acting for us on an empty training ward. I spent Friday afternoon with the wonderful Victor Hall who talked about his Health Book and how he keeps all his vital information in it.

Today was the first ever Disability Pride in Norwich, organised by Ann Young and her team from the Norfolk Coalition of Disabled People - NCODP. I was at the Forum bright and early to see Andrew and all my friends in D4Dance on Millennium Plain. They were delightful! very entertaining. I loved the film the Youth Forum made for FUSION and Johny Crescendo's songs were very rousing. He had a great song about Pride with a chorus "strong, angry and proud!" that everyone sang along to. Vince performed his poetry and was fantastic as ever and he and Ole had some artwork in the exhibition. It was a great day.

Have been doing some more work on the Prison Visitors Centre DVD. There's been some slight changes in the system for booking visits etc. Was nice to catch up with Chris again to rerecord bits of his voiceover. The French version wasn't quite complete so this was a great opportunity to make sure it was up-to-date and a friend of Carmen's called Judith came in to adjust Gervais's translation and rerecord the voiceover. Gervais is from the Congo so it was fascinating working with Judith and hearing about the differences between Congolese-French and French-French. This whole process of translating the DVD into a variety of languages has been amazing. It's interesting seeing which translations can fit the timing of the original film with ease - the Russian and the French have been the biggest challenge so far and I've had to include stills to ensure the words fit the images. Judith thinks she might be able to find us some Lithuanian students next...

We had the last ever Shelly Telly Table Tennis Club Night at the Miller Hall at the Norman Centre tonight and it was a good one. Lots of new people turned up and it was loads of fun. It was slightly more sedate than usual because we combined it with a Knit-In for helenofnorwich's giant scarf - sometimes the temptation to sit and knit rather than do some sport was too much for people! The Norwich and District Table Tennis League are now passing ownership of the Miller Hall over to the City Council and the room will be used for lots of different things. Had a cuppa with a lovely woman called Pat Howe today. Pat runs a voluntary group called Spirit of Carnival and they are organising a Community Parade called Fridi Gras in Norwich on Friday 9th July. I met Pat at a meeting about Norwich's bid to become a city of culture. Pat is keen for Norwich Pride to be involved in Fridi Gras and can offer us workshops and materials to create costumes. Sounds fab - will be wonderful to be embedded in a mainstream cultural event and dance alongside schools and charities and community groups. And it's a great opportunity for me to learn some costume-making skills for Shelly Telly.

Had some tea and cake with Nicola from Supporting People this morning. She's organising a "Let's Get Involved" Conference on 29th June and wants me to run a couple of workshops on "Creative Involvement" using my flip camcorders. Connie from Dereham is going to assist me which will be brilliant. We brainstormed ways of ending the conference in a creative, interactive way and came up with the "Evaluation Raffle." People would be given slips of paper to write their favourite thing about the conference. These would be put in a hat and a selection pulled out at random and read aloud. The people who wrote them will get prizes. In this way there will be the excitement of a raffle (I love a good raffle!) and we'll get to reflect on the day in a positive way. Nicola also agreed for me to organise a Knit-In for the giant Pride Rainbow scarf at lunchtime whilst the "Involvement Cinema" featuring the Supporting People DVD and other films are screened.

Saw an amazing play at the Playhouse tonight. It was called "Hearing Voices" and was by Clare Summerskill. It was the story of her time on a mental health ward. There was some amazing acting from the company who all played lots of very different roles. I've done several different filmmaking projects with people with mental health issues so the play felt especially poignant. Our films often capture people's memories so i felt quite emotional seeing similiar stories brought alive on stage. For more details of Clare's work check out www.claresummerskill.co.uk

My old pal Maggie was there on one of her last days at work as the Involvement and Empowerment Team Manager at Norfolk Learning Difficulties Service. Maggie has got a new job at a regional level. I'm keen to hear if there's other Shelly Tellies in neighbouring counties and what kind of community filmmaking is happening elsewhere.
